A Lobi maternity of a wellknown carver/workshop, standing on blockshaped feet, slightly bent legs, large, pointed navel, hanging tapering breasts, the angled arms carved to the body, the rectangular hands stylized, beneath a globular head, a short, thick neck, the fascial features with an arrow-like nose, framed by diamondshaped eyes, on top of the head a vessel, the child at the back of the mother looking sidewise; traces of a kaolin patina all other the sculpture.

Remarkable the different shape of the eyes: the mother with diamondshaped and the child with coffeebean-eyes (Howlett). Normally the sculptures of Tyohèpté Palé and the workshop around him have coffeebean-eyes, only weklknown exemplares of the Ex Bittlingmaier and Ex Bosc collection have this peculiarity, which is obvious rare in the oevre of this artist. Maybe it is a certain creation-period of this sculptor during he is carving this type of eyes.
Even this carver has probably produced several thousand sculptures during his life-time, these statues become rare nowadays. It verifies how fast the work of a Lobi-sculptor is absorbed by loosing, damages of insects and other reasons. We collected less than five or six works of this carver/workshop during the last ten years. The estimated quantity, which are in collections nowaday is probably less than hundred exemplares.
