This probably one of the most interesting discoveries of lst years. The concept of the almost symmetrical conceptions of the Bamana statues is radically interrupted. A kneeling maternity with a backward angled, fragmentary lower leg. On the knee of the other leg a child.Child and mother not facing eachother.

"The sculpture dates back to the time before Modibo Keita became President (1960 - 1968), during which time an export of artifacts was strictly forbidden, unlike the time after Mousa Traoré became president." (Daba Diarra)

The Wolosso is a "subtribe" of the Bamana, unknown in the literature, in a remote area beyond the river. Sculptures of this kind are extremely rare. Photos of similar sculptures are unknown in literature. They contradict the classical forms of the Bamana statues. . The carved figure in "Steering" shows an astonishing balance in its formal conception, as we only find in some outstanding Lobi-carvers, which, as is well-known, are regarded as an exceptional phenomenon in the traditional art of Africa. In the background the sounds of a dance of a Bamana hunting company shortly before their appearance, which was filmed a little later. Further information in the form of a translation of Daba Diarra's information as subtitles in a separate film version on request.
