A male Lobi sculpture of the Bonko region, probably an early work of Youl Bolare, the feet blockshaped, the legs slightly bent. the openwork arms carved close to the body, the hands of different shape, resting on the hips, a thick neck is supporting an unproportional large head with almond like eyes surrounded by high-arched brows, a the mouth with full lips beneath a slender nose, framed by semicircular ears with a significant tragus; hard, light wood, varied brownish patina with remnants of kaolin. This sculpture was collected with three other Lobi-figuess in the Bonko region, which are pictured on the following websites. This was confirmed by the last owner, who said, that these four sculptures are cominig from the same shrine. The similarity of the patina could be an indication for this statement. The first two sculptures are showing a high degree of commonalities with this figure, even mouth and eaers are completely different. I suppose these are different carvers but they have influenced each other in an intensive way. Die Schwierigkeit der Zuordnung bei einigen Bonko Skulpturen. blog-spot wj sold Height: 62 cm |
