A rare Lobi pendant of a hunter made from a hippopotamus tooth. It is the first time we collected such an object, because normally the pendants of the Lobi-hunters are made from Elephant-remnants, bober and khuluor objects of the khele animals ( die stärksten Tiere). We have never seen Hippopotamus teeth as Lobi fetishobjects in the literature. Even it´s wellknown that this animal was living in the Black Volta river (Mouhoun) about 60 years ago. So it´s probable, that also this animal was part of the secret Baba hunting ceremonies.

The patina and the intensive signs of use are veryfying an age, which could be from that time, where Elephant and Hippopotamus were still living in the Lobi-country.
