A small Lobi couple of Bimtiote Dah, standing on large blockshaped feet; remnants of encrusted earth; in the last years there was a little confusion about the question, which works are from Bimtiote and which are more to subsume to the carvers around this leading carver personality from Ivory Coast.

Bimtiote is a "rough" carver, not aesthetically "pleasant" like the good exemplare in the Guy van Rijn Archive, which was subsumed to Bimtiote, but probably it was from one of his skillfull followers. An identification mark for a Bimtiote sculpture are the"assymetric bladebones"(Paul Howlett) on the back of his carvings. These small bateba are thumbscetches and not comparable with his large "masterworks"of this great artist, but I would subsume them to Bimtiote and not to one of his followers.
