A Bamana-Kala Maternity, seated on a four leg stool, the wedgeshaped feet with accurately carved toes, the angled legs ending in prominent buttocks, the slender torso with a slightly protruding abdomen, the navel pointed and the breasts in prominent, conical form, the shoulders rounded, the abstract hands holding a vessel at the left s and a fragmentary child at the right side, the whole body is covered with geometrical scarification patterns, an extremly elongated neck supporting the large head with stylized facial features, framed by large rhomboid ears, wearing a striated, transversely-crested coiffure; the whole figure has signs of intensive use, in particular at the face of the mother, the breasts and the the fascial features of the child, which is typical for the ritual use of these maternities with it´s characteristic, fine touch-patina.
