A Benin bronze sculpture of a Portuguese, holding in one hand a sword and in the other a cock.This specimen of a Portuguese is hardly lower in quality than the bronzes of the 17th century. How old this specimen is can hardly be verified without a scientific test. Stylistically, there are hardly any differences. The subject of this warrior is interesting: On the one hand he holds a sword or dagger and in the other a cock, a traditional sacrificial animal centuries ago in West Africa.
