 A large Dogon maternity of unknown origin,based on a circular plinth, , the seated on a stool, holding two children in it´s hands, the arms carved close to the body, the breasts protruding, metal piercings at nose and ears, the head with a flaring coiffure; encrusted, traces of sacrifications, partly weathered surface, a fine, archaic exemplar of mother/child sculpture probably from the Hombori region, but unconfirmed. sold Height: 97 cm |
