A female Ibeji, probably Ijebu-Egba border area, small square base with rounded corners, short legs, the small hands resting on the thighs, the back bone is indicated as a straight line, the shoulders are rounded and hanging, the upper arms are quite big, the breasts are small and pointing, on the stocky neck rests a small head with big almond shaped eyes which are bordered all around and horseshoe shaped ears that are set very low, a short nose as wide as the small mouth with the slightly opened lips, on each cheek are three vertical and three horizontal scarification marks, on the receding forehead are three more vertical scarification marks, the coiffure is arranged in a herringbone-like pattern and tapering upwards; one necklace which is beautifully colourful and on each wrist similar colourful bracelets and strings of Kauris, dark brown patina with lighter spots due to touching and carying. sold Height: 27 cm |
