An Igala helmet massk, middle 20th century, incl. stand.

The kingdom Igala is located at the confluence of Niger and Benoue river at the crossroads of very old ways of contact between various populations.

This helmet mask is typical of their style, probably influenced by Ife's regulary striped masks. Fine complex composition with crescent eyes representing the spirit of a deceased ancestor, various brown to reddish patina, signs of age and ritual use.
