"Calabar is the capital of Cross River State. Situated in the Southeast. It is bounded by the Cameroonian mountain to the East, and several creeks to the South.

However, Calabar Terracotta cut across some major towns and cities which have similar culture; they include Cross River, Akwa-Ibom, Ebonyi, Benue, Abia and part of Cameroon Republic."

Since 800 years, "the Calabar terracotta that defines the Calabar style, were made using the same coiled modelling technique of pot making than any other form of carvings or materials." National Museum Lagos.

This tradition of high-quality craftsmanship is alive to the recent past until the 20th century. There are also many terracotta collectors today who appreciate the high quality of this traditional art.
