A Baule couple, Asye Usu, a nature spirit or bush spirit, Ivory Coast, posted on a rectangular plinth, seating on two legged stool, flattened feet, short legs ending up in prominent buttocks, well emphasized genitals, the arms carved close to the body with hands touching the abdomen close to the pointed navel, the male has pectoral muscles and shoulder blades pronounced, the female has tapering, solid breasts, both have a conical neck supporting an oval head, a pointed mouth, a finely curved mouth, a flat nose framed by open almond-shaped eyes with high patterned eyebrow arches, semicircular ears, the male face surrounded by striated line, both have different scarification patterns all over the sculpture, capped by a very precisely worked hairstyle with braids; a brown patina, several cracks, partly eroded, traces of age, ritual use and remnants of kaolin and blood.
