A Senufo Kpelié mask, Ivory Coast, of hollowed oval form, a pointed chin beneath a rounded protruding mouth with carved rows of teeth, a lip plug in its lower lip, a slender nose framed by pierced slit eyes, a domed forehead with a raised scarification, typical tribal decorative scars on both cheeks, surmounted by female figure, framed by elaborate abstract appendages, pierced through at the rim for attachment; reddish partly encrusted patina, traces of age and ritual use, incl. stand.
