A rare Mossi funeral mask, Burkina Faso, region Wayiguiya, village Yako, used during dance ceremoinies, the well known base of this facemask is surmounted with a v-shaped panel, pierced through by an oval hole beneath an egg-like head with a slightly open beak, the tapering "wings" on each side of the panel seem to symbolyze the eternity, which is the theme of every animistic funeral ceremony of the Mossi; signs of age and longlasting ritual use. 900 - 1.200,- Euro Height: 121 cm |
