A Baule face mask, region Sakassou, Ivory Coast, of hollowed oval form, the oval mouth showing baring teeth, a slender nose upraising to high arched brows, circular tube-like eyes, scarification marks of varied geometrical motifs on the forehead, temples and at the corners of the mouth, the face capped by a striated domed coiffure with a pointed ornament in the front, around the chin displaying a zigzag line, the mask pierced through at the rim for attachment; fine brown patina, traces of ritual use and age, several cracks.
