A Baule maternity sculpture, Ivory Coast, seated on a one-legged chair carrying a child on the back, a slender torso with a pointed navel and rounded shoulders, conical-shaped breasts, scarification marks in flat relief on the torso, arms angled forwards holding the feet of the child, an elongated cylindrical neck supporting an oval head, fine fascial features, capped by domed striated coiffure, the whole figure is covered with scarification patterns; blackened patina, traces of age and ritual use, partly eroded.
