A Bamana Do N’Jelini sculpture, Mali, standing on a circular base, flatted feet of angular form, bent legs leading to prominent buttocks and supporting torso with conical projecting navel, solid conical breasts, a deeply grooved spinal column, rounded shoulders leading to elongated arms with flattened hands touching the abdomen, an elongated neck supporting a helmet-like head with a flattened facial plane, a rounded mouth beneath a slender triangular nose framed by inset tacks for eyes, c-shaped ears which sit far back, geometric raised scarification on the body and the face, capped by five parted crested coiffure; fine encrusted reddish patina, traces of age and ritual use.
