A Baule Kpan mask with an encrusted sacrification patina of numerous more ore less unknown ingredients, such as eggs, eggshells, kaolin etc. Less known is the fact that Baule masks were also used for sacrifice purpose after using them during dance ceremonies. These masks were normally washed off before they were offered in the Western Art market, because "clean, restored" Baule objects are better for sale than objects with an intensive fetish- or sacrification- patina. At the top of the coiffure is missing a little piece of about one centimeter, which isn’t visible on the photo.
