A Losso sculpture, Northern Togo, curved instead of the well known straight shape, leather strings around the neck and the hip, posted on a circular base; a heavy encrusted sacrification patina.

There is a great lack of knowledge about some ethnic groups of Northern Togo and Nigeria and the little literature that exists is very old. We need serious field research on these groups from which these excellent ancient sculptures come. A research that costs a lot of money and cannot be afforded by the low prices usually paid for ritual objects coming directly from Africa. If these objects had a so-called Western provenance, the value would undoubtedly be several thousand euros.

The Lossos (Nawdba, sing. Nawda) are an ethnic and linguistic group of people living in the Doufelgou District (Préfecture) of the Kara Region in Northern Togo, West Africa.
