An anthropomorphic Koro cup sculpture, Nigeria, standing on wedge-like feet, slightly bent legs, broad shoulders terminating in arms slightly bent forward, wedge-shaped hands with incised fingers, the cylindrical neck supporting an oval head, a pointed, slightly open mouth, narrow slanted eyes, large ears projecting outwardly, the head capped by an iroquois-like hair cut running perpendicular between the eyes, a container of curvilinear form carved in the center of the sculpture; blackened patina, traces of age and ritual use. This type of cup was used for drinking and for pouring libations of beer or palm wine at ritual sacrifices. sold Height: 51 cm |
