A Baule mask, from the region Boauké, Ivory Coast, of hollowed oval form and with a broad rim, a mouth with full lips, a slender slightly curved nose leading to broad high arched brows, crescent-shaped eyes, horizontal slit underneath the eyes, scarification marks on the face, brass nail above the bridge of the nose, the head capped by a striated domed coiffure with an ornament on top, around the chin displaying a zigzag line, the mask pierced through at the rim for attachment; heavy encrusted patina, decorated with red and black pigment, traces of age and ritual use, several cracks and holes, the rim partly eroded, incl. stand.
