A Baule mask, Bouaké, village Sakassou, Ivory Coast, of oval hollowed form, with a broad rim, a diamond-shaped mouth beneath an elongated nose with prominent nostrils, leading to high arched patterned brows, the eyebrows and the nose are connected in the middle by small scarification marks, pierced crescent-shaped eyes, scarification marks at the corners of the mouth, temples and forehead, framed by hemispherical ears projecting outwardly, a grooved striated hairline and a three parted domed coiffure, the mask pierced through at the rim for attachment; reddish patina, traces of age and ritual use.
