A Yaure mask, from the region Bouaflé, Ivory Coast, of hollowed oval form, a small pointed mouth beneath an elongated nose with a broad tip, ending in high arched brows, pierced heavy lided eyes, the face displays varied scarification marks at the corners of the mouth, on the cheeks, on the temples and between the eyebrows and the nose, a grooved hairline, atop of the head stand two Kalao (Hornbill) birds, the face encircled by a zigzag line, the mask pierced through at the rim for attachment; brown to blackened patina, traces of age and ritual use, several cracks, incl. stand.
