A female Senufo guardian sculpture, Northern Ivory Coast, standing on a circulare bas, shortened legs, one arm elongated and in u.shaped manner touching the right breast, the other, slightly bent, resting on the hip, the head in the style of the Northern Senufo country not far from the border to Mali, on top an high abstract animal in janus shape, a symbol of looking in each direction, important for a guardian figure to protect the house of a high ranking personality, the sculpture has remnants of colourfull paintings. This important, large Senufo guardian figure is high aged and could be carved at the beginning of the 20th century, that means an estimated age of 100 years or more. The right arn and the right breast is partly eroded. Provenance: the heritage of Mr. Kaba Cabinet, one of the leading collector and dealer of the Bouaké region, who passed away about ten years ago. sold Height: 144 cm |
