A Yauré mask from the region Sakassou, Ivory Coast, of hollowed form, with a broad rim, a small oval protruding mouth, a slightly pronounced philtrum, a triangular nose ending in high arched striated brows, the eyebrows and the nose are connected in the middle by scarification marks, pierced crescent-shaped eyes, hemispherical ears, scarification marks of varied geometric patterns at the corners of the mouth, on the cheeks, on the temples and on the forehead, the mask is wearing an intricately incised coiffure, on the top of the head a kalao bird (hornbill), a decoration of zigzag patterns along the face, the mask pierced through at the rim for attachment; dark brown patina, traces of age and ritual use, incl. stand.
