A rare Kulango pair one of a very small number of bronze, typical for Kulango art objects is the high degree of abstraction of human physiognomy, characteristic of many Kulango sculptures is the sitting position with the knees at the front and the long upper body sitting on the legs. In the male figure, the feet protrude from under the buttocks. The raised navel on the male figure is slightly lower than on the female, short indicated arms just before the long neck begins, which in turn carries the triangular bird-like head typical of Kulango sculptures; greyish, greenish patina

"The literal meaning of toko is in fact, "shadow" or "double", a word used both of the shadow of a person cast by the sun and of the reflection of a face in a pool of water or a mirror. These extensions of ourselves -inseparable companions- relate to the faces brought together on a talisman. Even on the religious level, opposition and conjunction play a central role, at the base of which is a founding myth inspired by a dualist organisation of the world. Chaos is made up of dual principles, united and devided. The birth of twins is seen as a re-enactment of the fabled beginning of time."
