Rare Ogoni dance attachment from Ogoniland in the Niger delta. The figure is sitting on a chest, the genitals very visible and particularly emphasised by the open hand position, the body otherwise strongly abstracted, athletic upper part of the body with a pronounced chest, long neck, on the head instead of a coiffure a big tuft of feathers, reddish brownish patina with regular white dots distributed over the whole figure.
The Ogoni are perhaps the oldest settlers of the eastern Niger Delta. They live south of the Igbo, west of the Ibibio and inland from the Andoni people on the Atlantic coast. The lesser influence of colonial powers is noticeable in their culture, in that they have enjoyed less "western" education and have thus retained more of their pre-colonial culture.
