A Bamana maternity statue Do kamissa from the Diola region in Saro province, sitting on a four-legged stool, feet, legs and buttocks covered with highly abstracted geometrical patterns, the torso elongated with tapering, downturned breasts, each with a child sucking on them, both children sitting opposite each other on the plate-like palms above the protruding navel, cylindrical long neck attached with a piece of cord, oval head with small protruding mouth and round narrow nose leading to the stylised eyebrows, half-round ears with three holes each, cord running through them, headdress with Iroquoian form and incised lines; on the head and shoulders further geometric patterns, brownish patina.

The value of children in women´s lives is expressed in a song sung by newly exised Bamana women (Luneau 1974:539)
