The Namji people of Cameroon and Nigeria make a variety of important tribal dolls. The function of this particular doll is that of a guardian fetish. Such figures can be bought new or passed on from mother to child. The carvings vary, but they all conform to the traditional custom of the Namji. This doll is carved from wood and decorated with strings of beads around the neck and torso, as well as on the arms and legs, and is further adorned with various decorative elements such as beads, shells and other appendages.
