A Baule facemask, Ivory Coast, with a threeparted coiffure and pigtails on each side, a pierced, protruding mouth beneath a slender nose, framed by slit eyes and scarification marks on the forehead and cheekbones. The mask has a wide frill with holes for attachment; significant signs of a longlasting ritual use, small metal brac kets on the forehead.
