An impressive couple from the Koussasse (or Kusasi) region, border area of Togo, Ghana and Burkina Faso.

As far as Koussasse statues are concerned, there do not seem to be any images or photographs of Koussasse statues in the older literature - it is only in recent times that works attributed to the Koussasse have appeared on the tribal art market. But there is a photograph of a statue published by Seefried in 1911 and described as "fetish place at the chief’s in Kpatua, Moabregion" (Moab is an alternative name of Moba). The same photograph was published by Küas in 1939, but labelled ''fetish tool in KpatuaMamprussi''. A search for the village of Kpatua eventually reveals that it is in the core area of the Koussasse.
This example shows how difficult it is to assign statues and objects from Northern Ghana and Togo to a specific ethnic group. It is perhaps more correct to write ''Statue from the Koussasse region'', rather than ''Statue from the Koussasse''. according to Thomas Keller, 101lasttribes.com/tribes/kusasi
