According to the previous owner a rare Vere Bronze, Nigeria, depicting an androgynous humpbacked being with strangely formed arms and hands, a face with interesting features, bulbous closed eyes, an aminal-like nose and mouth. The being seams to wear pants with a belt and rings around ankles, upper arms, wrists and neck.

The Vere, Verre, or Were live in north-eastern Nigeria, in Adamawa State (formerly Gongola) and the northern part of Cameroon. It is only a very small population. The people live in round huts in fortified villages. The function of the Vere statuettes is still unknown. They are rare and reminiscent of the statues of their neighbours, the Mumuye.
