Epa mask called Iyaibeji (Mother of twins),

Moshood Olusomo Bámigbóyè, The Alaga of Odo Owo, born 1885-1975 (?) or his workshop, Nigeria.

Elaborate epa masks are carved to resemble various characters and then are worn at dances to honor Yoruba ancestors and to promote fertility and a plentiful harvest. This epa is known as Iyaibeji, "the mother of twins." Her central position, large scale and surrounding attendants underscore the respect she is due. It was carved by the renowned Yoruba artist Bamgboye or his workshop.

Helmet shaped janiform mask composed of a superstructure with various figures resting on a circular base. The head supporting the superstructure is hollow with large almond shaped eyes on both sides, square shaped ears with earplugs and large square-shaped mouths, one of which is pierced through on one side. The central female figure on top sits on a stool. She wears a triangular shaped necklace and a conical headdress. Her face and body are covered with spots. She holds two fully clothed male figures on her lap, each of whom holds a fan. Her feet rest on two rams. Two of the other smaller standing female figures are holding reins tethered to the rams. Another female figure is nursing a baby. There is a male drummer. Another male figure holds staffs and a rooster while another wears a sash and a scabb.
