A male Baule sculpture from the Ivory Coast, standing on a shortened stool like base, the delicate feet and elongated toes with carved ankles supporting muscular legs ending in prominent buttocks; a slender torso with a prominent abdomen and pointed navel with scarifications around it, rounded strong shoulders leading to arms carved close to the body, the hands resting on the abdomen, wearing armlets on each upper arm, slightly hunched posture, with more scarifications on all over the back, the shoulders and the neck; oval head, with delicate face: a small mouth beneath a flattened triangular nose leading to high arched brows, heavy-lidded almond-shaped eyes; The rest of the face is ornamented with scarifications on the temples, on the sides of the mouth and in the center of the forehead; the striated goatee punctuated by two button like projections on each side; the head capped by a domed striated coiffure with intricate sectioning and ponytails at the back of the head; brown patina with remnants of kaolin, traces of age and ritual use.
