A rare Wurukun shoulder mask, Northern East Nigeria, collected in the adamawa region, Benue River, Takum village. This object was used for plant harvesting rituals, reddish beads, anomalteth and heavy, hard wood.
In the past, many Wurkun practiced indigenous religion, believing in spiritual forces and deities. However, over time, many have converted to Christianity or Islam due to missionary activity in the region- This leads to an increasing abandonment of old traditions that have been important for centuries, especially in rural areas. Recently, the influence of the terrorist militias of Boko Haram has also played a role in the Adamawa region.
