A Dan firerunner mask, Ivory Coast/Liberia, collected in the Man region, the present ‘fire runner mask’, called ‘zakpäi’, is an especially beautiful and old example of this mask type: made of hard wood, natural brown to reddish patina, ovoid form, with a small nose, pouting lips, originally used, fragmentary at the rim, probably first third of the 20th century.
